Stage Three - Learning Plan

  • The Learning Plan is the core component of the Understanding by Design lesson plan that includes implementation instructions for both teachers and students
  • Kindfulness lessons have five sections (A-D) plus an optional extension activity (E):

A. INQUIRE (_ min)

  • Discussion of key terms and concepts
  • Allows teacher to understand prior knowledge, address misconceptions, and get students on the same page
     

B. EXPERIENCE (_ min)

  • Hands-on activity that allows students to engage with the discussion topics firsthand and establish a personal connection to the Enduring Understandings
     

C. REFLECT (_ min)

  • Time for students to let the discussion and activity sink in, while figuring out how to answer the Essential Questions
     

D. SHARE (_ min)

  • Opportunity for students to discuss their reflection thoughts with the class and demonstrate their ability to effectively reach Student Objectives and complete Performance Tasks
     

E. EXTEND (_ min)

  • In-class or homework activity that further advances the development of Enduring Understandings and/or allows students to apply their learning in more in-depth ways
